Heaven by Julia Michaels If you swooned over To All the Boys I've Loved Before then you are probably in major Peter Kavinsky withdrawal. If you haven't yet watched the movie then first of all "have you been living under a rock?" but second, this list could still be useful for you if you're looking for a light read with swoonworthy fictional love interests. For those of you who haven't yet watched the movie, Lara Jean, in the book by Jenny Han, writes love letters to every boy she's ever had a crush on which all get accidentally sent out which sends her on a crazy adventure of fake boyfriends, past loves and new loves. Books with the classic trope between a borderline nerdy shy girl and popular school athlete/playboy are completely underrated in the YA community. As long as the story line isn't completely over done (who are we kidding, we still love those books!), then the book can still be really engaging and entertaining to read. Plus, these books are home to some of our favourite fictional crushes. I made a list of book recommendations that live up to the expectations of fluffy romance without being completely tacky: 1) To All the Boys I've Loved Before series by Jenny Han: If you haven't read the series yet than it is a total must! I typically recommend reading the book before the movie but if that is no longer an option for you than don't feel like you no longer have to read the book. It is still a necessity. Repeat: it is still necessary to read the books. Not only will you get to follow the story of the characters and not have to wait for the movies to come out but also the books are, in my opinion, just as good as the movie if not better. I know, don't come after me. How could Peter Kavinsky be any hotter if not for Noah Centineo? Trust me, I know it sounds impossible but he really can. 2) The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han: If you're loving her writing it only makes sense to pick up more of her books. My favourites of hers include the The Summer I Turned Pretty series. Though admittedly won't give you the same degree of mental (!!!) as the To All the Boys I've Loved Before, you can still fall in love with Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. If you are itching to fully invest in a really fun summer love triangle then these are the books for you. Be warned though that you should not go into the series expecting it to measure up with her past series!
3) My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick: This is not the last time you'll be hearing about this book from me. I am completely and irreversibly in love with Jase Garrett. A forbidden secret love unravels with her strictly off limit neighbour. But the book is more than just a romance and goes into depth about other important aspects of Samantha's life like her complicated friendships and broken home life. I, again, love this book so much! If you haven't read it yet, you're missing out on a heartwarming romance with characters that you can't help but desperately root for. And fall in love with. Whatever comes first. 4) Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson: Morgan Matson is the author of some of my favourite books which includes Since You've Been Gone which is not on the list because it has a late blooming romance theme that is not similar enough to the To All the Boys I've Loved Before series. Don't worry though, you'll definitely be hearing about that book sometime soon! Second Chance Summer starts off with Taylor returning to her childhood lake house when the family is hit with devasting news. As well as nostalgic memories, the lake house also brings Taylor heartbreak when she first learns that the people she left behind hadn't gone anywhere. Her former best friend and first boyfriend ends up in the house just next door... right where she had left him so long ago. xoxo Ella

As Fun by Naaz I of course check all of the boxes needed to start a book blog... Book lover (check), YA novel enthusiast (check), love of writing and passion for reading (check and check), mother that has read all of my journals (check... wait what?). Yes, you read that correctly. I am desperate for an outlet for writing after my mother stole all of my journals. My journals had become my only safe place to confide in once my life started gaining parallells to that similar of my favourite YA romance novels. I had a secret forbidden romance with... wait for it... my sister's boyfriend's brother. Isn't that so cliche? I'd be rolling my eyes right now if I was reading this in a book rather than actually living it. Granted, the secret had already come out in the most dramatic way possible, staying true to those classic romance tropes. Anyways, this whole experience increased my already borderline obsession of YA books and my desperate need to write hence you reading this post right now. Maybe you're reading this post because your life is about to take on a YA romance inspired plot point and this is all just elaborate foreshadowing in your story. Or maybe you're just bored. Either way, I hope you're here for the long run. It's going to be a rollar coaster of brutally honest YA novel reviews, fictional characters to fall in love with, song recommendations and hot chocolate rating scales that'll hopefully make sense later on. Enjoy the ride! xoxo Ella |
